We specialise in the careful conservation and restoration of historic architectural ironwork — from railings and gates to bespoke ironwork structures. Our approach is conservation‑led, grounded in careful investigation and a deep understanding of original construction methods. This ensures historic fabric is meaningfully preserved for the long term, not replaced prematurely.

Faithful replacement only when necessary

Conserving original railings, gates, and ironwork structures with care
We restore historic architectural ironwork using a conservation-led approach that prioritises the retention of original fabric wherever possible. Our work is informed by a detailed understanding of historic materials, construction methods, and failure mechanisms, ensuring durable and appropriate outcomes.
Understanding original construction before intervention
Where historic ironwork presents unclear assembly methods, undocumented alterations, or complex deterioration, we undertake careful investigation to reconstruct original construction logic. This forensic approach allows informed decisions to be made and avoids unnecessary loss of historic material.
Specialist ironwork input at early project stages
We provide consultancy services relating to historic ironwork, including condition assessment, feasibility advice, and development of conservation strategies. This work is typically undertaken at early project stages to inform specifications, reduce risk, and support architects, estates, and private clients in making responsible decisions.
Historically appropriate replacement and finishing where required
Where elements are beyond repair, we undertake conservation-led replication using appropriate materials and techniques. We also carry out specialist finishes, including traditional lead pouring and dressing, specialist bronze dies, gilding, and other historically accurate decorative treatments.
Our work spans investigation, consultancy, and delivery, allowing historic ironwork to be properly understood, responsibly specified, and carefully conserved from early assessment through to completion.
Our approach is conservation-led. We begin with investigation to understand original construction and performance, allowing informed decisions that prioritise retention of historic fabric, appropriate intervention, and long-term durability. Early involvement ensures risks are understood and responsible strategies are established.
Our work is informed by decades of experience in the conservation of historic ironwork. Prior to establishing the practice, members of our team worked on a range of nationally significant projects while employed by leading conservation firms.
